Our lakes and rivers offer a wide variety of fishing opportunities. In the lakes, the most common fish include pike, whitefish, vendace, perch, burbot, and ruffe. In rivers, you may catch prized fish like wild salmon and grayling.

From July 21–25, the traditional Salmon Region Fishing Competition is held as part of Muonio’s Salmon Week, an annual event since 1993.

Here in Muonio, we have over 1,000 huskies and about 6,000 reindeer. You’ll surely see someone walking a husky in the village, but kids especially love visiting a husky farm. And what could be more heartwarming than cuddling a husky puppy?
You can visit the Harriniva Husky Farm on guided tours starting in June.
On a rainy day, or just for fun, it’s worth stopping by the Muonio Ethnographic Museum, open from June 17, Tuesday to Saturday between 11 am and 5 pm. Entry is free!

When planning your daily itinerary, here are some suggestions for what you can experience in just one day:
Visit the historic Keimiöniemi fishing huts, hike up Keimiötunturi, and unwind at Arctic Sauna World.
Snap a photo at Olostunturi, then enjoy a delicious meal at Restaurant Kammari at the foot of the fell (open from July 1).
Conquer Taivaskero and savor local delicacies at Lapland Hotels Pallas.
Visit the unique Fish Library and meet the adorable huskies at Harriniva.
Explore the village center, including the Muonio Ethnographic Museum, Muonio Church, Louis Philippe Park, and browse local shops.
Visit the sacred Sámi site of Äkäsaivo and admire the scenic views of Äijäkoski rapids.
You can take a refreshing swim at many locations, such as Pekonen Beach in the village center, the sandy beach at Lake Utkujärvi, or Red Sands on the shore of Lake Pallasjärvi.
After a day outdoors, the warm steam of the sauna soothes and relaxes. You can book a private lakeside sauna or enjoy our four-sauna world. Arctic Sauna World is open daily from 3 PM to 10 PM.

During your summer holiday, you can enjoy local delicacies like reindeer, fish, and berries. Have you tried mettäkakko yet? It’s like eating a bun and a cookie at the same time. If you want to cook in your own cottage, the K-Market and S-Market located in the village center are at your service. You can also try K-Market’s home delivery service.
