WHERE IS MUONIO AND HOW CAN I GET THERE?

Kittilä International Airport welcomes your flight. There are direct flights to Kittilä, for example, from Helsinki, London (TUI UK), Paris, and Munich. From the Kittilä airport you can take a bus or a shuttle service taxi (book 24 h before at muoniokt(at)hotmail.com) to Muonio within an hour.  It is also possible to fly to Rovaniemi and Tromsø (Norway). The distance to Muonio from these airports is slightly longer.

A connecting service operates between Muonio/Olos/(Jeris/Pallas) and Kittilä Airport:

• Saturday–Sunday: Supported by ELY Centre as a public transport line.
• Monday–Friday: Operated as a pre-booked service arranged by the municipality.

Transport is available for every Finnair flight to and from Kittilä. The service runs only if one or more passengers have booked. Reservations must be made in advance by purchasing a ticket at www.matkahuolto.fi.

Pre-Booked Transfers

Pre-booked transport is available on the route Harriniva–Seo, Muonio–Olos–Särkijärvi–Torassieppi–Jeris–Levi–Kittilä Airport on weekdays (Monday to Friday). This service is operated by Ollibus for Finnair flights.

Exception: For Thursday and Friday midday flights (arrival at 12:55, departure at 13:40), the service is operated by Kilpistaxi.

Weekend Transfers

On weekends, transport is provided by Taksi Tapio Hietalahti.

By Train

Take a train from Helsinki to Kolari Station and continue by bus or take a shuttle taxi (book 24 h before at north.kth(at)gmail.com) that takes you to Muonio in an hour. Night trains and trains with car-carriages are also available. Another good option is a train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi and a bus to Muonio.

These connections will bring you to the Seo service station in Muonio town center, where you can utilize onward travel options, such as renting a car from Seo’s Scandia Rent Muonio. You can find the schedules for connecting buses on the Matkahuolto website.

By Bus

A bus from Rovaniemi to Muonio takes about three hours.  You can even take a night bus from Helsinki to Muonio. The Arctic Route – a bus route from Rovaniemi via Muonio to Tromsø, Norway − is a great choice if you are looking for new adventures and unforgettable experiences in Lapland. Hop on and off to explore the Arctic on your way to Muonio.

Additionally, Onnibus operates routes from Helsinki to Muonio via Rovaniemi. You can find bus schedules on the websites of Matkahuolto and Onnibus.

By Car

Muonio is located on Route E8 which spans the distance between Turku in the south to Kilpisjärvi in the north. From Rovaniemi, you can drive along the route 79 and admire the amazing views on your way.
