Fishing on the long rivers and numerous lakes of Muonio is a real passion for many fishers. In a small area you’ll find fell brooks, streams and over 200 lakes and long rivers. The Muonionjoki River is the longest free-flowing river in Europe and one of the finest salmon rivers.

Fishers return to Muonio year after year for the next catch. The most common types of lake fish are whitefish, pike, vendace, perch, and burbot. You can also catch wild salmon and grayling. Permits for fishing, hunting and traversing the terrain with a vehicle are needed. We encourage you to be an ethical fisherman. See Metsähallitus
